The story goes that the Church of Santa Luzia was erected in honor of the saint
by the fact that in the fifteenth century, a troop of knights have passed in that gentle valley,
with his eyes burned from the sun and the dust.
In that very place they found a spring of water and they made a stop to wash their eyes.
Their healing was so rapid that Nuno Álvares Pereira, Constable of Portugal,
built a chapel in honor of the Holy Saint of the eyes diseases.
The small, secular Chapel of Santa Lucia, patron saint of Pias, sponsored our first DOC.
This Igreja Velha (Old Church) follows in its footsteps of genuine quality.
