Description
This wine is 100% syrah form the Alisos Vineyard in the hills east of the town of Los Alamos. The Los Alamos area lies between the Santa Ynez Valley and the Santa Maria Valley and the climate at Alisos is closer to the climate at Purisima Mountain – on the cool side of warm if that makes any sense.

Grapes for this wine were harvested from the older section of syrah at Alisos (planted in 1991) on October 6th at 24.6°, 3.34 pH and 7.5 acidity – perfect balance! The grapes were destemmed and transferred to a small open top fermenter. We cold soaked 3 days then fermentation lasted an additional ten days. After pressing, the wine went directly into François Freres Burgundy barrels (25% new) for 15 months. 108 cases were bottled without fining or filtration in February 2007.

This is the tightest and most backward of our 2005 Single Vineyard Selection syrahs. It’s also one of the most intense and structured. The aromas show wild cherry with hints of blueberry, wild flowers and earth. This wine needs a few more years to really show its stuff and should easily improve for 10-15 years.
