Pier delle Vigne is produced from a blend of Aglianico and Montepulciano. Literally translated as "Peter of the vines" this wine in named for Frederik II of Swabia's right-hand man and is closely connected to the history and legends surrounding local viticulture.
The wine is bright ruby red in color tending towards garnet with age. The perfume is generous and elegant with hints of woodland fruits.
It is full bodied on the palate and well-balanced within with fine tannins that are mellowed by aging in small French barrels.
This wine is ready to drink upon release but also benefits from additional aging.
Recommended with grilled steak, roasted veal and other braised meats. Serve lightly below room temperature.
