Appearance: Polished mahogany. From a first fill, European oak ex-sherry butt. Good beading. Good legs.
Aroma: No nose prickle, in spite of its strength. Immediate scents of crème brulée (or creamy custard with burnt sugar), backed by fresh Virginian pipe tobacco and behind this a faint whiff of treacle toffee. As might be expected, a little water raises a brimstone note, but at an acceptable level (and it blows away); then caramel coated in dark chocolate, with dried fruits (especially figs).
Taste: The aromas noted at full strength translate well into tastes. Tannic and slightly bitter overall, as in bitter chocolate. Lingering aftertaste of sherry and dark chocolate. Becomes softer and more oily at reduced strength; a rich, fruity sweetness followed by a tannic dryness. Medium length, with a dark chocolate and Madeira aftertaste.
Comment: The flavour profile is typical of maturation in a good European oak, ex-sherry cask. After 12 years in this active cask, there is not much evidence of the original spirit character, but the cask has done an excellent job (and been bottled at just the right time, before it takes over altogether).

Information: Deras passion för Single Malt Whisky var deras drivkraft när dom skapade Malts of Scotland. Att få möta personerna vid destillerierna och glädjen att upptäcka nya goda varianter av whisky.
Det var efter ett antal år av provande som man 2009 bestämde sig för att släppa sin första omgång med 11 olika Single Cask Whisky under eget namn.
Deras motto är "special bottlings for special moments”. För att vara säkra på att hålla en hög standard så är dom noga med detaljerna som bland annat nogrannt fatval och speciell förpackning.
Man har idag samlat på sig många fat som i framtiden kommer att buteljeras och vi kan alla se fram emot kommande buteljeringar från dessa whiskyälskare som är stationerade i Tyskland.
